Anxi Tie Guan Yin Origin
As the name already implies, this Tie Guan Yin comes from Anxi Nature Reserve in Fujian Province, which has been a prosperous tea growing region throughout history, and a major tea export area since the Song dynasty.
"Tie Guan Yin” Meaning
The name of this tea refers to the Chinese Goddess of Mercy Guanyin, who is known in Japan as Kannon and in Korea as Guam-eum, due to the tea’s unique purifying and meditative flavor, which are qualities always associated with Guan Yin. 'Tie' means 'iron refers to the tightly compressed form of this tea and the sound (that resembles 'iron') when this tea is dropped in a teapot.
The polyphenol compound found in Tie Guan Yin and other Oolong teas is very effective in controlling the fat metabolism of the body. It activates certain enzymes and thus enhances the functions of the fat cells in human body.
